Luke is officially crawling today after being enticed to keep moving towards the remote control. Now he will crawl a short distance to get other fun things like toys, Bella, or Brooke’s hair. I will try to post a video here if I can get it on the computer, edited, and uploaded to this site. Since I have never done any of these things and don’t have much time to fool around with it now, I am not sure when I will get to post it. Keep checking back.

Yes, it also seems ridiculous to me that I am filling out school registration forms for an eight month old baby. Still, that is what I am doing. We have been so pleased with Brooke’s school experience that we have decided to send Luke to preschool 2 mornings a week in the fall. School won’t start for another seven months, so Luke will be almost double his current age. It is still weird.

This afternoon I took Luke’s Robeez off his feet and placed them on the floor near where we were sitting. Luke reached over to grab one of them and attempted to place it back on his foot. I thought that was pretty smart for eight months old.

I can hardly believe that Luke is really eight months old already! At this point, his first birthday is just right around the corner! Crazy! This month has brought some visible developments for Luke, some big and some small. As you can see in my last entry, Luke has finally gotten his first tooth. I am sure that others are not far behind as happened with Brooke at around this same age. Luke’s hair is finally starting to grow in a bit, and it is now obvious that his hair color will be red of a shade similar to Brooke’s hair. Luke is not crawling forward, but he is otherwise very mobile. He can swiftly roll everywhere, scoot backwards, push himself up very high on his legs/arms, and get himself from a lying down position to a sitting position. Luke loves music, and listening to his Ralph’s World CD will often get him bouncing, clapping, and giggling like mad. Luke is just starting to try some meats, and his verdict is still out on them so far. Things are definitely getting more fun and interesting around here.

Luke’s first tooth has now completely broken the surface of the gum and is slowly but surely making its appearance.

This evening when Luke grabbed and bit down on my hand (which is commonplace here if you are not careful), I felt it! There was a sharp spike in his mouth! A tooth is finally breaking the gum! After more than three months of incessant “teething” activity, it is about time!

Coming from a family with two fairly talented musician parents and a sister who definitely has music in her blood, it should come as no surprise that Luke would follow suit. He started clapping his hands a few weeks ago, and he loves clapping his hands and bouncing to the beat of a song. If you start singing or making any kind of musical sound, Luke will start clapping or bouncing. What I have found most intriguing, however, is his ability to clap and bounce to the beat. He does seem to have a feeling for where the beat actually is and tries to follow it. Luke also seems to have an interest in drumming. He will beat on a box, his container of wipes, his highchair tray, or any suitable drumming surface. Perhaps we have another drummer in the family?

I am working on making some changes to Luke’s site in the next few days. These changes will include a new theme and features as well as a new title (we can’t really decide on one yet). Check back in a few days and let us know what you think.
